Understanding the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC):

What is the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC)?

The Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) is the regulatory body for real estate in Florida, responsible for educating and regulating real estate licensees. It's composed of seven members, including licensed brokers, sales associates, and consumer members. FREC oversees a broad range of real estate professionals, including sales associates, brokers, brokerage firms, and real estate schools. The commission is responsible for addressing complaints, conducting disciplinary hearings, and taking appropriate actions like issuing fines and license suspension or revocation.

Who is the Florida Real Estate Commission:

The Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) was created to protect the public through education and regulation of Real Estate licensees. The Commission consists of seven members who are appointed by the Governor. The FREC meets monthly, typically for two days in duration, and scheduled on the third Wednesday of the month and the immediately preceding Tuesday. The FREC administers and enforces the real estate license law, which includes Chapter 475, Part I, Florida Statutes. The Commission is also empowered to pass rules that enable it to implement its statutorily authorized duties and responsibilities. These rules are contained in Chapter 61J2, Florida Administrative Code. The statute and rules, along with Chapters 455, 215, 120, and 20, Florida Statutes are available under Statutes and Rules.
