By Kymberly Franklin posted 10-14-2024 12:47

Elected Officials determine public policy on important issues impacting your business. When you vote, your voice counts.

The REALTOR® organization recommends candidates who champion issues related to real estate, home-ownership, and private property rights. In addition, the Association considers support of issue campaigns that address the rights of the property owners and/or improves the quality of life within our region.

The Space Coast Association of REALTORS® recommends a YES vote on the following Brevard County Charter Amendment:

Ballot Language: Economic Development Ad Valorem Tax Exemptions for new businesses and expansions of existing businesses

-

Shall the board of county commissioners of Brevard County, Florida continue to be authorized to grant, pursuant to s. 3, Art. VII of the State Constitution, property tax exemptions to new businesses and expansions of existing businesses that are expected to create new, full-time jobs in the county?

The Brevard County Ad Valorem Tax Abatement Program is an economic incentive program that offers partial tax relief to eligible businesses to encourage new investment and job creation within the county. This program is a powerful tool used by Brevard County to attract, retain, and expand high-tech, high-paying jobs on the Space Coast. Since 2005, the AVT program has produced a commitment by companies for over 4,000 new jobs, resulting in an additional 4,700+ spin-off jobs and total wages into the community reaching $4.43 billion. A YES vote on this County Amendment will allow the Space Coast to remain competitive in attracting businesses and industry to the area helping ensure a healthy economy.

Florida Realtors PAC mission statement:
The purpose of the Florida Realtors PAC is to:
  • Assist the legislative and political efforts of the Florida Realtors
  • Promote and strive for the improvement of government by encouraging and stimulating REALTORS and others to take a more active and effective part in governmental affairs
  • Encourage REALTORS and others to understand the nature and action of their government
  • Support Candidates for election to public office at the local, state and national levels who share the views of REALTORS on issues important to the real estate industry
One of the most important programs of any REALTOR Association's Government Affairs Committee is candidate recommendations. This program is carried out when there are two or more viable candidates running for the same office. When this occurs, members may look to the association for guidance as to which candidate is better suited for the office, and which one has a better chance of being elected. Most importantly, which candidate most closely supports the REALTOR point of view and issues important to the real estate industry.
