Realtors, Unemployment and Applying for Benefits

By Jaimie Engle posted 04-16-2020 15:09

The Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) reemployment site has changed the application to include self employed / independent contractors. The forms will include a question about "Are you an independent contractor?"

Answer yes.

You will be denied, and this will trigger the Care Act. There will be a second application for self employed / independent contractors who are denied. This second application is not ready yet. FL Realtors is helping the DEO work through this. They will let us know when the second application is ready. In the meantime log on and get denied though the current application and check the independent contractor/ self employed box. The DEO has already added that.

Again, you will be denied Florida unemployment, but should become eligible for pandemic unemployment. Unfortunately this step of being denied is critical.
