If you have been following these weekly updates and/or have had a chance to participate in one of our stops on the Homegrown Advocacy Tour , then you should be well aware of the new anti-squatter bill that was recently signed into law. Brevard County Implements Burn Ban BREVARD COUNTY, FL. -- Due to ongoing dry weather conditions Brevard County is favorable to the risk of wildfires, Brevard County has implemented a ban on open burning, such as bonfires, campfires, trash burning and other incineration, throughout the county. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) has topped 500 (out of a scale of 800), due to the dry conditions and little rain in the forecast. Under a County ordinance approved in 2017, the burn ban automatically goes into effect. It is intended to help owners reclaim their property quickly as long as certain conditions apply. In addition, there are Yearly Distressed Market Summaries for both types of properties. A quick recap of the Brevard County Residential Report for Q1 2024: Closed Sales are down -7.6% for Q1 2024 in which the number of units closed was 668 compared to 679 in Q1 2023, with a decrease in cash sales of -1.6%. Business Rent Tax Reduction Set for June A cut in the state’s commercial lease sales tax, from 4.5% to 2.0%, will begin on June 1, weeks earlier than originally expected. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Business owners will see an earlier-than-anticipated reduction to the state’s lease tax, beginning in June rather than July, state leaders said. Florida’s commercial lease sales tax rate, also known as the Business Rent Tax, will be reduced from 4.5% to 2.0%, providing Florida employers with at least an estimated $1 billion in tax relief beginning June 1, FloridaCommerce said. Public Policy Update Quick reminder that we still have our Call for Action ongoing regarding the veto of SB 280 – Vacation Rentals. This is the bill that passed this session that, if signed, would have a long-lasting, detrimental impact on the state’s tourism industry and would completely trample the rights of thousands upon thousands of property owners in the state. Existing-Home Sales Descended 4.3% in March Full article here Key Highlights Existing-home sales retreated 4.3% in March to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.19 million. Sales fell 3.7% from the previous year. The median existing-home sales price rose 4.8% from March 2023 to $393,500 – the ninth consecutive month of year-over-year price gains and the highest price ever for the month of March. The inventory of unsold existing homes grew 4.7% from one month ago to 1.11 million at the end of March, or the equivalent of 3.2 months' supply at the current monthly sales pace.
