Global Committee Meeting

The Global Committee invites you on Thursday, August 29th at 10:00 a.m. as Peter Cranis, the Executive Director at Space Coast Office of Tourism, shares his Tourism Update. Mr. Cranis will be talking about the Tourism Development Office and the Tourist Development Council, what they do, how they market, along with some statistical data regarding the tourism industry in Brevard County.

Peter Cranis grew up in Melbourne, Florida attending and graduating with honors from Eau Gallie High School and Brevard Community College (A.A. in Journalism). He went on to the University of Central Florida and received a B.A. with honors and an M.A. in Communications. He has also been an adjunct professor at UCF for 26 years, as well as being a Past Chairman of the Alumni Association, serving on the Board of Directors for 25 years.
 
His career has spanned 30 years, beginning with handling Advertising and Public Relations at Church Street Station, a tourist attraction that was in downtown Orlando. Following that he did both PR and advertising for Sprint Telecom; was Associate Vice President of Marketing at SunTrust Banks; and Director of Marketing at Kirchman Corp., a global software firm.
 
He then determined that tourism was his passion and went to the AAA National Office as Director of Marketing Communications. Following that, he received his big opportunity to become Vice President of Consumer Marketing at the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau (now known as Visit Orlando) where he spent 16 years. There he was responsible for advertising and marketing programs in 8 countries, managed the visitor and call centers, oversaw Travel Industry marketing in the US and Canada and managed several other departments. When he left the organization in 2016, he was managing over 40 staff members, a $25 million marketing budget and attraction ticket sales of $14 million. His next endeavor saw him become the Head of Sales and Marketing at the Orlando Eye, a 400 foot tall observation wheel in the heart of the Orlando touristdistrict.
 
His passion is marketing, tourism and Brevard County where he lived in a beach condo for the last 10 out of 11 years. He is married to his beautiful wife Melissa who is from Louisiana but has lived in the Melbourne area for 10 years and also has a passion for Brevard County. His mother has also been a resident of Melbourne for over 40 years and is a retired teacher in the Brevard County School System.
