Condolences to the Family of Lorene Shafer

Helen Lorene Leggitt Shafer, at age 98, passed into eternal life on Friday, April 2, 2021, at VITAS Hospice in Orlando, Florida. Lorene was the President of the Space Port Board of Realtors, also known as Titusville Board of Realtors, from 1974 to 1976. She received her Emeritus status with the association in 2011. She was heavily involved in the realtor community in Brevard county, as well as the Titusville community. 

Lorene was born and grew up in IL, and was the daughter of Edgar and Bessie Savidge, who preceded her in death as well as her sister, Lara Laughead. Lorene is survived by two daughters, Valri Hawke (Stephen) and Nancy Clark (Richard), her son, Paul R. Shafer II (Mary Louise) and stepdaughter, Evamarie Shafer Williams (Douglas). 

Lorene enjoyed spending time with her six grandchildren: twins, Kimberly Hawke and Mark Hawke (Julie), Amanda Chesser (Robert), Emily Nichols (Jacob), Aurora and McKay Shafer. She had seven great-grandchildren, four boys and three girls. 

During World War II Lorene lived in Tampa, FL and afterward went home to IL. She moved back to Tampa in 1954, St. Petersburg in 1957, Titusville in 1971, and Orlando in 2019.

 Organizations that Lorene Shafer was a member of include: Florida Association of Realtors since 1956 and retired in 2012, Titusville Board of Real Estate and president twice, North Brevard Multiple Listing Service and president twice, Realtors Political Action Committee 99 Club, Titusville Planning and Zoning Board, Real Estate Instructor for Brevard Community College, Space Coast Economic Development Association, Pilot Club of Titusville since 1972 and president twice, North Brevard Detention Center Board, North Brevard Genealogical Society, NSDAR Indian River Chapter in 2000 serving as Regent 2010-2012, Mystic Eastern Star of IL as Worthy Matron.

 Lorene Shafer received the following awards: Excellence in Community Service in 2008 by IRCDAR, Titusville Community Service Award in 2012, Outstanding Service on Senior Citizens Advisory Council 1992-1994 by Florida Hospital Association, Outstanding Service in 1990 by Central Florida Consortium for Women.

 

Lorene will be forever missed by her loving family and many friends. Her family will have a private memorial service on Mother’s Day in Titusville. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Helen Lorene Shafer’s name to one of the following:
