New Online System to Streamline Service for Homeowners, Builders, Developers and Businesses

The City of Melbourne is pleased to announce that our new online self-service system for permits, site plans, zoning and development changes, construction plans, and Business Tax Receipts is now available at www.melbourneflorida.org/energov.

The EnerGov Self-Service System will allow developers, engineers, businesses, homeowners and contractors to submit applications, plans, and payments and enable City staff to review, provide comments, approve, and schedule inspections electronically. EnerGov will provide workflow automation and tracking services, mobile capabilities and citizen access. The software will connect all departments involved in the development, permitting and Business Tax Receipt process.

“EnerGov will streamline permitting, electronic plan review and tracking by allowing you to submit applications, plans, and payments online and to check the progress of your project – all without coming to City Hall,” said Jenni Lamb, Deputy City Manager. “In addition, City staff will be able to review, issue comments, approve, and schedule inspections electronically and concurrently, therefore greatly speeding up the whole process.”

Upon submitting an online application, applicants will be able to make online payments via credit card or e-check, view the status of their application or permit, and track its progression. Certain permits may be available to be printed upon payment of appropriate fees. Applicants will also be able to view, comment, and submit revisions and clarifications online with fewer in-person meetings required. Staff in the office and in the field will have access to the new software, allowing for a more streamlined process that will move applications and permits through the approval process more quickly.

New Business Tax Receipt applications, transfers of existing Business Tax Receipts or changes to a business classification can be submitted online through the new system. There is also a customer kiosk station in City Hall that provides business customers the ability to apply online with the direct assistance of a Business Tax Official. Once an application is approved, the business owner will receive an e-mail with a link to pay and print the new Business Tax Receipt. Online renewals of Business Tax Receipts will be available July 2021.
